While wrinkles have traditionally been considered public enemy number one when it comes to aging, they’re really only partly responsible for the “mature” look you’re developing. The loss of volume in your face is the other half of the story and, perhaps, more significant half.
As you age, your skin loses elasticity and tone, which is how wrinkles begin to form. This loss, however, also means that your skin is no longer supporting the fat in your face; and this may the only time you actually want to hold onto your fat. As a result, your face may develop a sunken, sagging look as your fat follows gravity south.
To combat this loss of volume, we offer Juvéderm fillers at Bella Medical Aesthetics, which is one of the more successful tools in our anti-aging arsenal.
To help you better understand the role of a dermal filler, here’s a quick primer on the Juvéderm treatment and what you can expect after your treatment with Dr. Beena Nagpal.
Fillers at a glance
There are several different types of fillers on the market, but we chose to go with Juvéderm because it contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance that’s already found in your skin. By choosing a more natural approach, your body is better able to accept and process the filler.
Areas of treatment
There are several applications for Juvéderm, depending upon your needs. Juvéderm can be used to add volume to your cheeks, around your cheekbones, giving you back those perky cheeks your mother used to pinch.
But if your mother also gave you thin lips, Juvéderm can plump them, which does double duty: it gives you a fuller mouth and also erases any vertical lines that may have developed around the perimeter.
Lastly, if you want to better show off your plump lips, Juvéderm can help get rid of the deep lines around your mouth that are often called the parentheses lines. These lines travel from either side of your nose around your mouth, down to your chin, forming parentheses around your mouth.
The Juvéderm treatment itself is incredibly simple, and fast. Depending on the areas you want to treat, you can be in and out of our office inside of an hour. If you prefer, we can apply a topical numbing agent before we inject the filler, minimizing any discomfort you may feel.
After, you may feel some discomfort at the site of the injection and there may be some redness or swelling, but these typically resolve themselves in a day or two.
If you like instant gratification, you’ll love Juvéderm. After your quick treatment, you’ll see immediate results. In fact, it’s for this reason that we suggest you don’t overdo it your first time out, especially when having your lips or cheeks plumped.
Since you can see the effects right away, you can spend a few days with the results to determine whether your goals were met, or whether you’d like a little more. Most of our patients are happy with the first go around.
Your Juvéderm treatment should last for a year, sometimes even two! Since the hyaluronic acid in the filler is something your body is already familiar with, your body naturally processes it over time. If you want to come in for touchups to maintain your results, you can count on doing those 6-12 months after your first treatment. If you want to wait it out until the filler naturally dissipates, we’ll likely see you in 12-24 months.
It’s important to note that everyone is different and your results may vary.
